ARCH ENEMY's JEFF LOOMIS Wants SEPULTURA's ELOY CASAGRANDE To Play On His Next Solo Album
February 11, 2019During an interview with Ola Englund at last month's NAMM show in Anaheim, California, guitarist Jeff Loomis (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) confirmed that he is working on material for his third solo album.
Speaking about the delay in releasing the follow-up to 2012's "Plains Of Oblivion", Loomis said: "My life has changed, being in ARCH ENEMY, with the tons of touring we do. We're one of the busiest bands out there — we're out there a lot. And when I get home, I'm pretty… I don't wanna say 'shot,' but I'm just tired. Being 47, 48 years old now, it takes a little bit out of you. So when I get home, I like to rest and get ready for the next tour. But I have found time now. We do have a little bit of down time now. We're planning on going back to Japan in March, so I am going to complete the writing in the next two months for my next album."
Asked which drummer he will use for his next solo record, Loomis said: "I don't have a drummer. I do have a drummer picked out, but I don't know if he's going to be available. I have another guy in mind that I'd really like to use. His name is Eloy Casagrande, from SEPULTURA. I had a chance to meet him when we just played South America a couple of months back, and he's just the nicest guy, and I just didn't have the courage to ask him. But if you're watching this… [Laughs] You were really nice to me when we met each other, so here's my invite to you to drum on my new album."
Loomis, who was the main songwriter in his previous group, NEVERMORE, joined ARCH ENEMY in late 2014, but was not involved in the writing for the latter act's latest album, 2017's "Will To Power".
"Plains Of Oblivion" sold 2,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 179 on the Billboard 200 chart. The effort landed at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of the Billboard 200.
"Plains Of Oblivion" was released in April 2012 in North America via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES) and features cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design, who has previously worked with ALL SHALL PERISH, THE END and XERATH.
